About Your Interim Chief

Captain Shaun Sturlaugson has over 23 years of law enforcement experience. Shaun started with the GRPD in 2004. He was appointed the interim Chief of Police on April 17, 2023.

Meet your Captains
Patrol and Investigations are led by a joint task force. Together they oversee the patrol operations, supervise investigations, ensure compliance with the Department policies, procedures, regulations, and standards; supervise the administrative and support functions of non-sworn personnel; interview and hire sworn and civilian personnel.
Captain Janet Kauchich has been with the department for over 16 years and has over 23 years of law enforcement experience.
Captain Shaun Sturlaugson for over 18 years. Together they bring over 28 years of combined experience.
Either Captain will serve as Acting Chief when Chief Jarvie is out of the office.
Together they strive to provide exceptional leadership and commitment to the members of the GRPD as well as the community.
