Green River Community Development
The Community Development Department facilitates the construction of buildings and developments within the City and ensures compliance with zoning and subdivision ordinances and building codes. This is accomplished through City Planning and Building Inspection. The Department Divisions include: Building Inspection - is important to ensure that residential, commercial, and industrial buildings are constructed safely and to a high standard. The Building Inspector administers and enforces the International Building Codes which require a high standard of quality and construction. Buildings are inspected several times when under construction to ensure compliance with building codes. Planning & Zoning - reviews designs and plans for compliance with the zoning ordinance, considers zone change and special use permit applications, and makes appropriate recommendations to the Green River City Council. City Planning is important in that the entire City is zoned for specific uses, i.e.. Residential, Commercial, Industrial. Zoning is effective to maintain healthy, safe and livable neighborhoods and commercial areas, keep compatible uses together, and for maintenance of property values. City Planning also provides for adequate lot and road standards when a housing development is constructed. The Community Development Department is involved with enforcement of specific parts of the Green River City Code of Ordinances. Enforcement is necessary to protect the health and safety of all residents. Many construction, remodeling, and business operation projects require approval from the Community Development Department or the City Council. Please contact the Community Development Department with your questions about obtaining proper approval forms.
