The Municipal Court is presided over by Judge Jason Petri.  The Municipal Court Judge has exclusive jurisdiction over all criminal violations of ordinances of the City.  Fines do not exceed $750 for any one offense and imprisonment does not exceed six months.

Municipal Court programs include the following:

  • Work Restitution - This is a supervised community clean-up service.  In lieu of paying fines, defendants may choose to work off the entire amount of the fines through the Work Restitution Program, a program started with a combined effort of the Municipal Court and the Green River Police Department.
  • Teen Court - Teen Court is an alternative sentencing program for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 who are charged with a first offense.  After sentencing by a jury of their peers, a teen court defendant must complete his/her sentence to have the criminal charge dismissed by the supervising judge.
  • Street Rules On-Line - The Municipal Court is offering Street Rules On-Line, a defensive driving class available via the Internet.  This is an alternative solution that ultimately results in the dismissal of the moving violation. Participation is available to the Defendant once every three years.
  • YES Program - The Municipal Court is in the process of beginning a Youth Educational Shoplifting Program (YES) through the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention.  Some of the topics the YES Program will cover include:  the reasons people shoplift; how shoplifting affects lives; how much a shoplifter risks for such a small reward; how shoplifting can become a habit or addiction; and how to stop shoplifting now.
